We hope that children can take the initiative to express themselves and use correct language instead of expressing themselves with problem behaviors. The first step of training is: Mand training – take the initiative to make requests and expect others to help them and give them what they need.

📣 Parent Training Tips: [Reduce the use of questions]

Ask proactively✅ VS. Answer ❌

First, let’s explain the meaning of “spontaneous” and “active”: Parents hope that their children will tell them what they are thinking and take the initiative to communicate with you. Just think about it, when will we take the initiative to speak? Just when you have desires and demands. We hope to teach children to actively respond to their own motivations when they have motivations, such as "hungry", and use words to make requests, so as to get what they need and learn the importance of language. Instead of waiting for someone to ask a question, answer it first.

In the comic, although both methods get the results we want, the child says "I want to eat cake" and the corresponding reward "cake" is also provided. ✴️ But one actively responds to his own needs, and the other passively responds to his mother’s questions.

So when helping your children practice spontaneous communication, try to use less question prompts and try to do more:

1️⃣ Seize the opportunity: practice different sentences when your child is motivated🚨

2️⃣ Improve motivation: Use objects to induce motivation, practice repeatedly 🤹♀️

3️⃣ Direct prompt: When a motive is captured, directly prompt the child to use the sentence "I want _____".

"Can ______", practice filling in the end of sentences first, and then reduce the prompts after you successfully get used to using the sentences, until the children learn to respond to their own motives instead of relying on prompts🎯
